The Advent of mVAST: Multi-vector Active Spine Traction as a therapeutic exercise
A busy spine specialist searched the Earth to find a gliding bed. He just wanted a basic tool that would allow people to self-apply an elastic stretch using simple leg press muscle exertion. This would allow them to control the amount of force - either very gentle, or a bit stronger, depending upon their comfort. Upon realizing such a product did not exist, he built a crude prototype and invited people with chronic back pain and stiffness to try using his device. To his amazement, about 80 volunteers reported very good results using his new device. Here is where our story gets interesting. With continued use of the new device, his patients were reporting exceptionally gratifying, and often immediate relief from their lower back pain. This was followed by a clinical trial that measured pain signatures using muscle activity sensors called dynamic EMG. This research indicates that mVAST multi-vector active spine traction reduced pain signatures and is safe to use as a form of therapeutic exercise. Dr. Brown was issued a patent for user-applied exertion producing traction along a gliding track. The Kyro Active Traction and stretch platform was born.
